Best Sunrise Ever While Surf Fishing Malibu 01-22-2014

Not satisfied with yesterdays catch, I headed back to Malibu, CA to do some more surf fishing alone. I arrived at 6:30 AM with sunrise slated for 6:57 AM. Low tide was a 1.85' @ 7:19 AM and high was a 3.09 @ 12:31 PM, bait was squid. After being treated to one of the most beautiful pre-sunrise and sunrises I have ever witnessed and recorded I caught my first fish for the day at 7:59 AM, which was a nice 16" grass rockfish! Now that is the kind of fish I am looking for :). Back in the water and fishing was pretty slow the rest of the day, but I did catch one more fish at 11:25 AM, which was another grass rockfish around 9" or so. Tired and satisfied with my one keeper I packed up and headed home from Malibu a happy man around 12:30 PM. I was so glad I got my butt up early to see this amazing sunrise in sunny Southern California, it was worth it!!! Hope you all enjoy!

Sunrise Surf Fishing Malibu 01-21-2014

Since it had been a whopping three days since I had fished, I headed down to a spot in Malibu, CA to do a little fishing. I was greeted by darkness when I arrived, but a spectacularly beautiful sunrise as it slowly made its way up. Lots of pictures of the sunrise, sea and sky in this post. I arrived around 6:05 AM. Low tide was a 1.87' @ 6:06 AM and high tide was a 3.63' @ 11:33 AM, bait was squid. Aside from the calm seas and gorgeous sunrise, sky and sea the fishing was very very slow. My only fish of the day was a very small (6-7") grass rockfish which I caught at 9:01 AM. A nibble here and there was all I got after that until I packed it in at 10:19 AM. Slow day of fishing, but worth getting up early just for the views.

Sunrise Surf Fishing Malibu 12-06-2013

Did some surf fishing in Malibu with Brian. I arrived at around 6:00 AM and Brian did around 7:30 AM and we left around 10:30 AM. Low tide was a 2.03 @ 4:51 AM and high was 5.55 at 10:52 AM. Bait was squid as usual. Fishing was very slow, but I was rewarded with a great sunrise for getting there so early (video below, get better as it goes :)). I caught the only fish of the day at 9:14 AM which was a 10.5" or so grass rockfish that was released to get bigger and make babies. Brian didn't catch the sunrise nor any fish, lol. Slow fishing, but another great day in Malibu!

Surf Fishing Malibu 11-22-2013

Decided to do some surf fishing alone, so I headed to Malibu. I arrived just after 6:00 AM and left at 10:15 AM. Low tide was a 2.73 @ 4:55 AM and high was a 4.53 @ 10:51 AM. Bait was squid. The only fish of the day was caught at 6:40 AM and it was a 13.5" cabezon (1.5" short of legal), which was released of course. Nothing after that, but I got lots of pretty pics and videos of the beautiful sunrise on the sea. It was very very windy, which you can see in the first video, which made me happy with catching only one fish (fishing is difficult in wind when you use 40 pound mono). Another great day in Malibu, CA.
